Workshop – Plein Air Painting – Alert Bay, BC July 24-28, 2023
Enjoy 5 days of painting and optional whale watching time in beautiful historic Alert Bay on Cormorant Island.
Following in the footsteps of early 20Th Century artists Emily Carr and J Walter Phillips – and later artists EJ Hughes (early 1950″s) and Robert Genn (early 1980’s) we will paint a new location every day. We have the use of the Nimpkish hotel breakfast/gathering room for evening discussions and critiques or painting. And if too wet to go out on location we can paint indoors or on the covered deck – seaside views.
Focus will be on learning to observe and interpret the landscape. A large theme in this workshop will be about how to simplify and organize the overwhelming amount of information in the landscape, to make a good painting. Paintings often express a unique energy that is difficult to repeat in the studio environment.
Any medium – basic skill level required. Bring your own supplies (no art store nearby) and a folding chair or stool. Limited spots available. Contact me through email contact form on this site.
NOTE: THE NIMPKISH STILL HAS A FEW ROOMS. PLEASE BOOK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS ALERT BAY IS DESTINATION DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS!
